March 7, 2007 - We're back
from WonderCon. What a great show!
Thank you, everyone who stopped by the table and gave a us a moment of your
time. The big seller for us at the show was Eric's brand new artbook, Halogen:Halo.
For those of you
unfortunate not to have made it up to WonderCon, you will have another chance
to pick up Eric's latest by stopping his artist alley table (2102) at the
upcoming Wizard
World Los Angeles.
Axel will be a few doors down the way with his own artist alley table (2105).
Have you seen the shoes? Axel's been flexing those artistic skills by customizing
some kicks. Check them out here.
If you want some, go ask him.
Next month we're heading back up to the Bay Area for this year's Alternative
Press Expo, A.P.E. for short. The show falls on April 21-22. We get a
little breather before heading to the "grand daddy" of the mall,
the 2007 San Diego Comic Con. We'll release more details about our participation
in this show when they become available.
Now for those of you unable to attend any of these shows that we'll be exhibiting,
or are just too impatient to wait. You can get your copy of Halogen:Halo here.
February 25, 2007 - Well, it's fifty six days into the new year. The chinese new year just happened to be the weekend before. It is now officially the year of the boar(or pig, if you like). This week also seems to mark the beginning of the convention season. Our very own Eric Canete will be heading out to the big apple's New York Comic Con (artist alley A125) to hock his wares. He'll only be there on the weekend, so don't look for him on friday or you'll be sorry. He was hoping to debut a new sketchbook for this show, but for various reasons the books won't be ready. Eric will however be taking on commissons. SO if you haven't already reserved one from him get yourself on down to his table and put your name on the list.
Unfortunately there won't be any rest for the weary as Eric joins Axel and yours truly for a trip up to the bay area next week (March 2-4) to take part in this years WonderCon. We are hoping and will try our best to make sure that Eric's new book, Halogen_Halo, will be ready for this show. Presumably, both Eric and Axel will be open for commissions. So if you're so inclined, stop by the table (artist alley - AA74) and see what we're up to.
September 1, 2006 - Blogs are a "dime a dozen" you say? Well this one's worth at least ten times that (sorry Axel). Chock full o' drawing goodness, this blog does not disappoint. Thanks for your support!
August 17, 2006 - Eric was recently interviewed by Wizard Magazine for their website. Check out the interview here.
August 3 , 2006 - For those you who are heading to the windy city for this year's Wizard World, you can stop and meet our very own Eric Canete in artist alley. He'll be there sharing a spot (#3041) with DC/Wildstorm artist Dustin Nguyen. Eric will be selling copies of his new sketchbook, Beauty & the Beast, as well a brand new art print.
July 10, 2006 - We are once again heading down to the this year's San Diego Comi-Con to "get our geek on" and sell some of our gear. Look for us at table "E-1" in the southwest corner of the exhibit hall, in the area with the black backdrops.
What will you find when you stop by? What's new with the studio? There's quite a bit actually. So keep reading to find out what we'll have at the show.
June 25, 2006 - Jojo Aguilar is an experienced illustrator and designer. His talent and skill should not be described in one particular way. It is perhaps best described in Thirty Three. That is, in his new sketchbook titled, Thirty Three.
In this inaugural collection, Jojo's work focuses primarily on character designs, exploring a few different themes along the way. The range of his work goes from cute and cartoony to overly life-like and detailed. This book should not be missed and is available now, only thru lulu.com. - 60pps./B&W Int/Color Cover/$15.00
June 22, 2006 - Bored @ Work Productions is proud to present, in association with Black Velvet Studios, Pecks and Randal Sahara's Sketchbook. This collection is 32 pages of drawing goodness, straight out of their very own sketchbooks. Pecks (aka axel#13 of Black Velvet Studios), is featured in the first half of the book, while Randal Sahara finishes off the rest of the book with his dazzling skills!
Randal Sahara first met Pecks while attending Pecks's comic book class during 2004. Pecks was really impressed with Randal's drawing skills and progression during the class, so he took Randal under his wing. Pecks has collaborated with Randal on illustrative work for Bored @ Work Productions. Randal will also be working on a short story for Backspace, that will be published through Black Velvet Studios. - 32pps./B&W Int/Color Cover/$10.00
June 7, 2006 - We a proud to welcome Lauren Montgomery into the fold as she collaborates with our very own Eric Canete on a brand new sketchbook. Beauty and the Beast is a collection of sketches that focuses on one of the mysteries of the universe that we love to ponder the most,... Women! This book contains sketches of the beautiful female form, ranging from multiple genres - from sword fighters to gunslingers, from maidens to robots, and from snake-charmers to animal handlers - all drawn in the unique, animated style found in Montgomery and Canete's work. WIth drawings in both finished inks and rough pencils, this book is sure to help aspiring illustrators in focusing on strong forms and smart designs in their drawings. Published by Black Velvet Studios and available now, only thru lulu.com. - 64pps./B&W Int/Color Cover/$15.00
June 1, 2006
- Welcome to version 2.10 of the Black Velvet Studios website. For now, only
the main page will be up. More pages will be opened and announced as they
are finished (you know the drill by now, right?) So check back here often.

| Halogen:Halo
is Eric Canete most recent volume of creative goodness. This collection
features several alluring painted pieces and which cleverly flow to
a number of distinct black and white illustrations. Eric has hit this
one out of the ballpark as the book is delicately placed within it's
very own acrylic slipcover. Halogen:Halo is like nothing you've every
seen. - 34 pages, Color & B&W interior, Color cover, $25.00.
